Alex Pompe
Research Manager
Alex Pompe is a Research Manager on Facebook’s Data for Good team. This team builds privacy-protecting data sets to aid humanitarian response work for natural disasters and public health crises. Prior to this he worked on access to information and civil society development programs at an international NGO called IREX, first in Ukraine, next in Namibia, and then in Washington DC. Alex holds a BS in physics from the University of Illinois, and an MS from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Jennifer Gardy
Deputy Director, Surveillance, Data and Epidemiology on Global Health, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Dr. Jennifer Gardy joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Malaria team as Deputy Director, Surveillance, Data, and Epidemiology in February 2019. Before that, she spent ten years at the BC Centre for Disease Control and the University of British Columbia’s School of Population and Public Health, where she held the Canada Research Chair in Public Health Genomics. Her research focused on the use of genomics as a tool to understand pathogen transmission, and incorporated techniques drawn from genomics, bioinformatics, modelling, information visualization, and the social sciences. In 2018, Jennifer was named one of BC’s Most Influential Women in STEM by BC Business Magazine and was named one of the Government of Canada’s 20 Women of Impact in STEM. In addition to her science work, Jennifer is also an award-winning science communicator, hosting many episodes of science documentary television, including The Nature of Things and Daily Planet, as well as authoring science books for children, including a new book to be released in 2021
Dr. Linda AdhimaboOucho
Executive Director, African Migration and Development Policy Centre
Dr Linda Adhiambo Oucho is an established migration expert and Executive Director of the African Migration and Development Policy Centre (AMADPOC). Dr. Oucho holds a PhD in Ethnic Relations from the University of Warwick and has conducted research on internal, regional and international migration patterns including projects related to poverty, climate change, diaspora development and youth, employment and migration. She provides support to the Government of Kenya to understand migration and development issues using evidence-based approaches. In addition, she assists African countries to develop their national migration policies in line with the Migration Policy Framework for Africa (2018). Dr Oucho also serves as an editorial board member for the International Migration Journal and the Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Africa.
Dr. Marie McAuliffe
Head of Migration Research Division, Editor of World Migration Report, IOM
Dr. Marie McAuliffe is the head of the Migration Research Division at IOM headquarters in Geneva and Editor of IOM’s flagship World Migration Report. She is an international migration specialist with more than 20 years of experience in migration as a practitioner, program manager, senior official and researcher.
Marie has researched, published and edited widely in academic and policy spheres on migration and is on the editorial boards of scientific journals International Migration and Migration Studies, and is an Associate Editor of the Harvard Data Science Review. She edits IOM’s World Migration Report in partnership with leading migration researchers (2018 edition with Prof Martin Ruhs, 2020 edition with Prof Binod Khadria and the forthcoming 2022 edition with Prof Anna Triandafyllidou).
Marie is a senior fellow at the Global Migration Centre at the Graduate Institute in Geneva and a Sir Roland Wilson Fellow at the School of Demography at the Australian National University (ANU). She co-chairs the World Bank’s KNOMAD technical working group on migration data and demography (with Rainer Muenz), is a member of MIT’s Global Technology Review Panel, IUSSP’s panel on international migration and curates the World Economic Forum’s Migration Transformation Map. She has been regularly called upon to advise Ministers, senior officials and CEOs on migration and displacement, including former UN Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan, in his capacity as Chair of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State.
In late 2014 Marie was awarded a Sir Roland Wilson scholarship to complete doctoral research at ANU on irregular migration (approved late 2017). She is the 2018 recipient of the Charles Price Prize in demography for outstanding doctoral research in migration studies.
